What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is when videoconferencing (live video on a computer) is used for appointments with the doctor when they are at a location other than yours.
With the help of this technology, you and your doctor can talk about and share health information and images without the need for you to travel to a clinic.
Videoconferencing is usually used on television when the host of a show is interviewing a guest who is overseas or you may have used videoconferencing before via platforms such as Skype and Facetime.

Why have I been asked to use Telehealth?

Telehealth can be convenient when you need access to your specialist doctor. This implies that you can meet with your doctor using videoconferencing (or telephone) even though your doctor is at a different location.

Telehealth allows:

  • Enhanced access to your specialist/doctor
  • Reduced waiting time in a clinic, travelling and cost
  • Reduced absence from work
  • Reduced waiting time
  • Bulk billed for COVID-19 telehealth consultations

Frequently Asked Questions:

A: At the telehealth appointment, you (and your support person if you wish to have one) will meet with your cardiologist using a video link. You can see your doctor on the computer screen and will be able to talk to them just as you would in a face-to-face appointment. Where a video link is unavailable, you may be able to consult with your doctor via telephone.
